September 8, 2007 Singapore 4 Thailand 0 Singapore avoided finishing last in the Asia Cup when they beat Thailand 4-0 and qualified to play for the 9th/10th place play-offs. Singapore will now play Sri Lanka on Sunday. Thailand have lost all their matches in the Asia Cup and will seriously need to look at the way hockey is being developed in the country. Singapore will be relieved that they don’t have to face the ignominy of finishing last (11th) in the competition. Nee Yong gave Singapore the lead in the 18th minute which was built upon by Sivalingam Johnson in the 35th minute. At the break, Singapore led 2-0. After the break, Singapore scored off a penalty stroke in the 53rd minute, Hazmi Bin flicking fluently home. Four minutes later, in the 57th minute, Hazmi Bin converted a penalty corner to make it safe for Singapore.
