September 8, 2007 Pakistan 10 Bangladesh 0 Pakistan’s superiority was never in doubt in their thrashing of Bangladesh 10-0 in a classification match here on Saturday at the 2007 Asia Cup Hockey Tournament. Pakistan will now play China for the 5th-6th position match on Sunday. It must have been shattering for Islahuddin’s team not to make it to the semi-finals of the Asia Cup and the players did try and compensate for it by going all out against Bangladesh. Bangladesh played well in the defence restricting Pakistan to just four goals. But Rehan Butt’s team ferociously pushed forward and scored six goals in the second half. Rehan himself didn’t play today’s match and the captain’s band was worn by Salman Akbar. Rehan has been having a terrible tournament, his razor sharp finishes and runs into the opposition striking circle seem completely blunted. Waqas Shariff opened the scoring for Pakistan in the 8th minute as Akhtar Ali, Yasir Islam and Muhammad Imran making it 4-0 at the break. In the second half, Muhammad Imran, Abbas Haider (2), Muhammad Arshad (2) and Tariq Aziz completed the tally. Score Sheet: Waqas Shariff (8th, FG) 1-0 Yasir Islam (11th, FG) 2-0 Tariq Aziz (17th, PC) 3-0 Muhammad Imran (24th, PC) 4-0 Muhammad Imran (45th, PS) 5-0 Abbas Haider (50th, FG) 6-0 Abbas Haider (56th, FG) 7-0 Muhammad Arshad (63rd, FG) 8-0 Muhammad Arshad (65th, FG) 9-0 Tariq Aziz (68th, FG) 10-0
